6 Writing Compound Words for Preschool and Kindergarten

Compounding words means putting two words together to form a word. For instance the word “dog” can be composed from the words dog’s. To write the word dog, we would write the first word as “dog”, then add the word “s” for the tail. Therefore we have created the word “Dog’s” which is a compound word.

Writing compound words takes practice, but the more you write, the more you will improve. You may be amazed at how powerful you can be when you compose a simple piece of poetry using just compund words. Even if you cannot finish your entire composition in one sitting, you will become a better writer as time goes by.

When you are finished, remember to edit and proofread your poem. If you have written a poem and are not completely happy with it, don’t publish it until you have completely edited it. Let others have the chance to read it and see what they think. Once you are sure that it is exactly what you want to write, print out the poem and give it to someone who will be able to understand it. That way, you will have the final product at hand. Now, you may have to take several attempts to compose a good poem, but when you use compund words in your writing, your poem will be so good that no one will be able to put it down!
